In collaboration with Schoots architecten, we won the invited competition for the new child and community centre Meeroevers in Groningen. The childcentre will become a recognizable and sustainable meeting place, and the first building in this new neighbourhood of Meerstad. In our design, the building has a prominent tower and is placed on a landscape elevation (wierde), giving Meerstad a sustainable highlight in the neighbourthood.
The assessment committee sees our proposal as a building with “an iconic value” in which “the proportions and materialization have been carefully thought out” within a design with “clear principles”. Our design was labeled as “the most inventive and sustainable” with “many creative suggestions as well as concrete proposals”. In addition, our written and presentational communication was assessed as “very clear and pleasant”.
We are pleased with this received feedback and look forward to further develop our design together with the Municipality of Groningen, Bureau Meerstad, VCOG and the users. We have now started the elaboration the Preliminary Design with the design team.
