Interior architects are an essential link in designing comfortable spaces, both indoors and outdoors. Yet, the role often goes unnoticed, and many stakeholders are unclear about what the profession entails. In March, Elise Zoetmulder participated in a panel discussion at the HKU Master of Interior Architecture about the profession’s reputation. The panel included Charlotte Thomas (architectural historian and journalist) and Matthijs van Cruijsen (designer and founder of Studio Inamatt).
The discussion concluded that the title of interior architect gives you a recognized position in the field. At the same time, it’s an exciting journey to discover the kind of interior architect you want to become. In doing so, it is important not to be guided by what others expect of you. The definition of the profession is continually evolving, creating room to shape it yourself.
These insights highlight the importance of redefining and making interior architecture visible as an integral part of spatial design.
